Greenville Wedding Photographer
Let’s do this.
Hiring a photographer for your wedding, portrait session, or brand shoot should feel exciting -- not overwhelming. Here's exactly what working with Justin Brownell Photography looks like, from your first message to the moment your gallery lands in your inbox.
-
You send the inquiry, I send something back that doesn’t feel like it was written by a robot. We’ll talk through what you’re dreaming up, what you need, and what you don’t want (equally important tbh). If it feels like a good fit on both sides, we keep it moving.
-
Once you’re ready, I’ll send over a proposal with everything laid out clean + simple. contract gets signed, retainer gets paid, date’s officially yours. No weird fine print energy.
-
This is where it starts to feel real. We’ll build out the vibe together—location, timing, styling, mood, all of it. Whether you come in with a full pinterest brain or “I have no idea what I’m doing,” I’ve got you. The goal is something that feels like you, not a copy/paste shoot.
-
Super laid back, almost zero awkward energy guaranteed (lol). I’ll guide when needed, step back when it’s right, and keep things moving naturally. Think less “pose here, smile now” and more “just be in it.” This is where the magic actually happens.
-
After the shoot, I go through everything and craft your story—color, tone, feel, all intentional. Nothing overdone, nothing trendy-for-the-sake-of-trendy. Just images that hit now and still hit years from now.
-
Your final gallery gets delivered online, easy to view, download, share, spam your friends with, all of it. Depending on the project, turnaround is usually one to three weeks, but i’ll always keep you in the loop.
-
Need prints? Albums? Content resized for web/social? Help choosing images? I’m still here. This isn’t a “here you go, goodbye forever” situation. We are friends at this point!

As early as possible -- ideally 12 to 18 months out for peak Greenville wedding season (April through June and September through November). Popular venues like The Rutherford, Larkins on the River, and the Westin Poinsett book up fast, and Justin's calendar fills alongside them. That said, reach out even if your date is sooner -- last-minute availability does occasionally open up.

Absolutely. Justin regularly shoots across Upstate SC -- Simpsonville, Spartanburg, Travelers Rest, Anderson, Greer -- as well as destination weddings and sessions worldwide. Travel fees may apply depending on location.

What began as a passion for photography in college, then having my own experience with wedding photography from my own wedding day; has evolved into something more for how I operate as your photographer. I saw how things could be better and what I thought worked great. Below is what I think makes a difference in who you hire for your event.
Flexible by design
Through every step of the process I aim to make things as easy going as possible. It can get hectic and I am there to keep a calm approach to things to make sure the day goes smoothly. This is 15 years of experience in shooting, I have seen it all.
No two shoots are the same and they shouldn’t be.
Whether we’re shooting in Greenville, somewhere in the Carolinas, or across the country, the approach stays the same: adapt to the moment, the location, and what actually makes sense for you. Timelines shift, weather changes, ideas evolve—and instead of forcing things into a rigid plan, I work with it.
This gives you room to be fully present instead of worrying about things going “perfectly.” Some of the best images come from the unexpected, and having a flexible approach means we can lean into that instead of missing it.
Maybe we pivot locations for better light, adjust timing to match the energy of the day, or shift the direction mid-shoot because something better unfolds. whether it’s a wedding in Greenville or a brand session somewhere new, the goal is always to create something that feels right, not forced.
Creative Expresion
Not a copy and past. I strive to make every shoot distinct and one of a kind. If shooting at a location that thousands of couples have been to, I promise we will make it different and you. You are unique, your story is, and your photos should be too! This isn’t about copying what’s trending or recreating something you’ve seen a hundred times.
Every shoot is a chance to create something that feels honest, a little unexpected, and completely your own. I’m always looking for the in-between moments, the subtle details, the things that don’t scream for attention but end up meaning the most.
This is what keeps your images from feeling generic. when there’s real creative intention behind the work, your photos don’t just look good—they carry a mood, a perspective, something people can actually feel when they look at them.
Intentional from start to finish
This is all meant to make the your experience easy as can be but nothing about this process is random.
From the first conversation to the final edit, every decision has a reason behind it. Where we shoot, how we use light, the way you’re guided (or not guided), even the pacing of the session—it’s all done with purpose.
This is the difference between photos that look good and photos that feel like something. When things are intentional, your images don’t just follow trends or rely on luck—they reflect you in a way that actually holds up over time.
Before we ever shoot, we’re dialing in the vision—location, timing, energy, how you want it to feel. I am researching and scouting before we even shoot. During the shoot, I’m constantly reading the moment and adjusting instead of running through a checklist. The end result isn’t just a collection of images… it’s something cohesive, something that feels thought through, and something that’s unmistakably yours.
How it started
Hybrid Shooting
Hybrid (film + digital)
I can shoot with both film and digital. Primarily it’s digital due to things like costs (for both you and myself) and how much faster digital is during a busy day.
Digital gives us flexibility. It’s fast, adaptable, and lets me respond to moments as they happen without missing a beat. Film slows things down in the best way. It’s more intentional, more considered, and has a depth and texture that just can’t be replicated.
Why it matters:
You’re getting the best of both worlds. The reliability and coverage of digital, paired with the emotion and timeless quality of film. It creates a gallery that feels balanced—some images are crisp and immediate, others feel softer, more nostalgic, almost like a memory you can step back into.
What it looks like in practice:
I’m constantly choosing between the two based on the moment. Fast-moving, once-in-a-second moments? Digital. quiet, in-between, or emotionally grounded moments? That’s where film really shines.
Everything is edited to feel cohesive, so your gallery flows naturally—you won’t feel a disconnect, just a layered, intentional story.
The end result is work that feels both modern and timeless. Not overly polished, not overly raw—just right.
